Spring is coming!

The first sunshine showed up in full splendor as early as February, and for us that means: spring preparations!

For the grounds in front of the Next to radiate in fresh green again, we sweep the front gardens, prepare the flower beds and trim the trees. While gardening we have already discovered the first spring messengers. Snowdrops are often interpreted as the first bloom of the year. For us its clear: Spring is just around the corner!

We are looking forward to a sun-rich spring on the meadow!

A new modern office for Thomas Henry

The drink producer Thomas Henry, who moved into Atelier B in the Kellerei last year, has already targeted a new office.

As the company is steadily expanding, it decided to transfer to the ground floor of the Next. The former space of a music school will be rebuilt into modern and light-filled offices.

After a few alterations and additional power lines, the space is transformed and sports a new and modern look. We are especially thrilled about the reception area with its high walls for painting.

We will definitely enjoy coming over for a lemonade!

Abendrot at the Malzfabrik

The sustainable pension fund foundation Stiftung Abendrot offers its customers advanced services that are adapted to the social structural change. When investing in companies and institutions they pay attention to social and environmental criteria. Key principles are "health, environment and equality".

Following numerous investments in sustainable real estate such as the Holzmarkt in Berlin, the Malzfabrik now welcomes the Abendrot foundation as an investment partner! The foundation made a stop-over in the south on their visit to Berlin, and gained an impression of the Malzfabrik concept and got to experience the premises in action.

We are very pleased that the sustainable investment policy is consistent with our goals and future planning.

Another creative mind at Next

The Next offers all kinds of tenants that could not be more different. With another creative mind moves to the second floor. Graduate Designer Oliver Temmler represents the small company in Berlin and makes himself comfortable among the other small businesses in the Next. offers its customers great designs for any product and are also happy to develop concepts. Through years of experience, they will successfully meet every job, whether graphic, exhibition or web design.

We cordially welcome Oliver Temmler!

It is done!

One year ago, the exciting project "Darrensanierung" started. On a sunny autumn day the first two knight helmets were removed with a crane from the dizzying height of 40 meters and then transported to the workshop in Wittstock. After the return of the first two restored knight helmets, there was no break and so the other two hoods also disappeared in the workshop. We thank the Deutsche Stiftung für Denkmalschutz and the Landesdenkmalamt Berlin for their financial support!

Since this unique construction project is very complex and exciting, the individual construction phases were bundled into a film that can be viewed here>> in full-length. To get the best view we climbed on the roof of Next.

Let yourself be carried away by this unique journey of our landmark!

Mulled wine with dear tenants

We know how to sweeten up the cold season at the Malzfabrik. On the occasion of the inauguration of our fir tree, baptized "twin girls", and the start of the festive season on our premises, we invited our dear tenants to a round of mulled wine.

Despite fog and freezing temperatures many tenants stopped by and rang in the after work hours with us! The mulled wine kept warm and the Spekulatius was an invitation to take a moment and enjoy the good aspects of the stressful holiday season.

Thank you to all tenants who have sweetened our evening!

The Malzteam is already looking forward to next year.

Christmas party 1.0

On Thursday evening, the 5th of December, all tenants of the second floor in the adjoining Next gathered for a shared Christmas party in the showroom of HSJ, Traumhafte Betten and Schnieder Stuhlfabrik. Seating availability at the long table was thus ensured.

After a short greeting by the Malzfabrik and District Kunst- und Kulturförderung, the artist Friederike Hamann presented her concept for the hallway design. The architecture project launched by District Kunst- und Kulturförderung aims to revive the bare hallway with art. Implementation is scheduled for the coming year and everyone is already looking forward to the result.

The presentation was followed by an enjoyable evening with homemade mulled wine, cookies, quiches and other Christmas delicacies.

Holiday season at its best!

In touch with the factory

In their first week of expeditions with the Lehrwerkstatt Malzkabinett the team has gone up close with the old factory building. In the maze of soaking tubs, Darrhorden and refrigerator rooms we encountered endless items and spaces.

Luckily we had a few experts on our side who supported us on our journey of discovery. Without the wonderful building tour by Kristina Petrov (Malzreise) and the valuable information from Louise Bohley (Stadtentwicklungsamt; Untere Denkmalschutzbehörde) we would have needed forever to understand the landmarked Alte Mälzerei.

But the most beautiful expeditions through the building were just spent browsing the factory wherever curiousity took us. Equipped with LED lights and inventory cards we selected interesting objects for our archive. Sometimes we totally forgot about the time and came back hungry to the Lehrwerkstatt. After some warm soup we went right back into the factory. The found objects would eventually be photographed and cataloged in the archive.

Fortunately we quickly developed an archive structure with the helpful comments of studied archivist Sabrina Klewitz.

Grilling and chilling on the Sonnendeck

The Malzfabrik grows and evolves with each passing month. Therefore we decided spontaneously to offer a short break on the sundeck and drink an after work beer with our numerous tenants and enjoy delicacies from the grill.

With Pullet Pork burger, sausages, baked Drilling lettuce, cabbage with barberry, rosemary mayo and other goodies prepared by Foodpol, we ushered in the evening and took time to chat with our old and new tenants. With such a wide diversity of tenants, some of whom met that evening for the first time, new contacts will surely create new synergies. We're excited!

Even though the weather was hiding the sun, it was a cozy evening at "Wirtshaus zum Oberstübchen". And this time we can promise that every plate was emptied that night, so the next day the sun definitely came out!

Head up to lunch at Oberstübchen!

The Wirtshaus zum Oberstübchen celebrated its opening in August with a bang! The Food Agency Foodpol who moved in with us in the Next, had kept us guessing with delicious scents and name speculation for quite some time.

It was definitely worth the wait! Not only the cozy atmosphere with spectacular views of the Malzfabrik grounds, but especially their tasty treats invite you to stop by the "Wirtshaus zum Oberstübchen" at the Kachelhaus to pamper the palate for lunch. You will not only find the known Foodpol homemade delicacies, but sometimes treats, fresh from the smooker, fresh vegetables from the containers of ECF, homemade chutneys and other great products to buy. In addition, there is a small Rieslinglist and regional beers from small breweries.

All dishes are always prepared from fresh, local ingredients with Foodpol´s secret ingredient "love". But it will be safe to the beginning. We look forward to the first theme nights ...

Between 11.55 am and 4 pm you have the opportunity to convince yourself. We can say from personal experience that it´s always a treat!

A good mixture

It's been one and a half years now that we celebrated the pre-opening of our modern building Next. Shortly thereafter our first tenant Michelangelo Musikzentrum moved in in April and was the first to enjoy the view of the 15.000 sqm meadow and the Malzfabrik grounds. Since then we have welcomed a new tenant almost weekly, happy about new faces and curious about a variety of exciting businesses. Technology, art, education, production, and much more can all be found under one roof. The mixture in the Next couldn´t be any more colorful.

After more than 25 tenants and newly developed synergies we are now happy to announce that all offices are occupied!

We hereby welcome all tenants once again and look forward to a cordial cooperation!

Creative addition

Our modern neighbor Next adds to its interesting tenant mixture!

The 3D-Artists Oliver Hecke and Maik Eckardt let their creativity run wild at their new office in the Next. As specialists for 3D visualization and animation they  implement architecture, interior design, products and other ideas for advertising and catalogues. With their know-how and extensive experience they digitally work every sketch into photorealistic 3D graphic designs.

Their convincing renderings win over every client. Companies like Samsung, Siemens, Adidas or Mercedes Benz belong to their customer base.

The Malzteam welcomes Oliver and Maik and looks forward to the first Malzfabrik design! ;-)

A wave of welcomes

Our modern cube Next- next to Malzfabrik – will receive two more exciting tenants in early August that expand the range of different companies.

We welcome media*B and noDNA GmbH!

media*B was founded in mid 2006 by Birgit Bernt. The agency for digital media develops innovative projects for internet, multimedia, corporate design and digital photography. After just seven years of operation the agency has gained access to a large customer base. Through its network of qualified partners for concept, text, graphics and programming they design individual and unique solutions for their customers.

With noDNA the Next attracted a robotics provider. The award-winning national and international company develops and builds Teen Size Humanoid Robots. These are robots whose design is modeled after the human form. noDNA also sells special components for training, research and surveillance robots and now supplies the top companies in the world.

We are excited to see the result of the new tenant synergies and extend a hearty "Welcome"!

Next in focus

We participated in the popular "Tag der Architektur" for the first time, presenting the Next on June 29th. Industry professionals as well as the architecture curious visited the gray cube, where architect Kerstin Herzinger led through the rooms. The Next was once an investment ruin from the early 90s and was finally refurbished in the last two years after 20 years of neglect. Diverse floorplans designed for creative tenants who inhabit single rooms or entire floors.

For the "Tag der Architektur" one could visit free spaces of the Next building and gained a look behind the scenes as well as a fantastic view of the meadow. A successful day with the motto: "living architecture"!

Living Architecture

"Living Architecture" is the motto of the nationwide "Day of Architecture" , in which we proudly participate this year for the first time.

Initiators are the architects "Elwardt und Lattermann" who have supported us for years regarding construction and design, as well as the choice of the committee, which included the Next among the portfolio of 40 architectural projects. A look behind the scenes of the Next with guided tours will take place at the end of June.

Since June we welcomed dreamy tenants to the Next. Traumhafte Betten offer beds that provide the sleeping experience of a luxury hotel. They carry a variety of box-spring beds, which have already proven themselves in the top hotels around the world. The box spring is a combination of sophisticated spring systems with extra high pocket sprung mattresses and the layering of toppers and mattress pads. This makes sleeping at home a five-star experience!

Our idea: A bed on our meadow would certainly serve well for a short power nap...
